Press Conference in Tucson on Friday, July 18 at 12 p.m.
Is Part of “The Road to American Health Care” Bus Tour
ADVISORY — Health care costs are spiraling out of control. More than 47 million Americans have no coverage at all – including one in five Arizonans. As the election season heats up, nurses in Tucson are joining with workers and community leaders to urge voters to measure political candidates by the strength of their health care proposals.
On Friday, July 18, health care professionals as well as workers struggling to afford the rising cost of care will hold a press conference in Tucson – part of “The Road to American Health Care” national bus tour.
The bus tour is traveling across the country on its way to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, stopping in communities large and small to highlight the real people who are being hurt by the health care crisis. In Arizona alone, more than 1 million people don’t have health insurance according to the U.S. census, or 20 percent of the state’s population. Friday’s event seeks to make health care a central topic in this year’s election.
The tour is being organized by SEIU, the largest union of health care workers in North America, as part of a sweeping campaign to elect a new President and Congress committed to fixing health care -- and then make sure those newly elected leaders immediately pass comprehensive legislation that makes quality health care affordable for everyone.
